A Child's Christmas in Wales

by Dylan Thomas
read by John Knox-Johnston

Nov 25 & 26 - Dec 2 & 3

Once again veteran actor and native of Great Britain John Knox-Johnston reads the charming Dylan Thomas tale of “A Child’s Christmas in Wales,” heartwarming reminiscences from a child’s – eye- view of the duties, delicacies and delights of the holiday season and Christmas traditions of old. “A Child's Christmas In Wales” was published in 1955 and was originally written for radio. Thomas recreates the experience of Christmas as though it were a fairy tale.

He describes an old fashioned picture book Christmas which is meant to be familiar to everyone. At one point, while the narrator is remembering festivities from the past the voice of a small child asks him "Were there Uncles like in our house?" He replies, "There are always Uncles at Christmas", emphasizing that the experience of Christmas doesn't change with time: it is a universal experience shared by everyone.

We are delighted to bring you this free reading in our own cozy new home, upstairs at the Methodist Church in the Performance Center. Please join us on Nov 25 and 26 and Dec 2 & 3 at 5:30PM.
