About the Play:

Put three betrayed suburban housewives together with their three husbands accidentally locked in the new meat freezer in the basement and you get one hilariously homicidal situation. We kick off the summer season with a saucy, sexy comedy that mixes murder and mayhem .

The three couples find themselves in this situation during a dinner party at one of the couples’ homes. The husband is showing off the new freezer and its contents, his latest hunting conquests, to his buddies. When the three husbands (portrayed only as menacing offstage voices), become upset at not getting dessert, they appropriately pelt their wives with golf balls. The hostess, Nicky, without missing a beat, throws the golf balls in a bowl, and pours whipped cream over them for a gastronomic work of art. A newspaper article about Nicky’s embezzling spouse is attached to the broom closet door with a cleaver…. Move over Mel Brooks.

Yet although the gags give the air of a sitcom, The Smell of the Kill is well written and the women are fully characterized. Dark undercurrents emerge in what at first seems like an idyllic relationship for Molly. And despite Nicky’s husbands flawed interpretation of the law, she’s nevertheless devoted to him. And Debra isn’t the self-assured strong one we at first perceive her to be.

The play would appear to be targeted to primarily middle-aged women, but audiences of all ages and both sexes will enjoy the fun of watching simple, zany solutions be applied to complex problems we all face from time to time.

Directed by Giovanna Sardelli of NYC, who directed the enormously successful Bad Dates at TWN last season, this show is sure to be a another hit.
